About CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations

Our History

The foundation for this work was laid in 1877 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth when they opened the Saint Joseph Infirmary in Lexington, which later became Saint Joseph Hospital. Today at CHI Saint Joseph Health, we are dedicated to building healthier communities around the Commonwealth by elevating patient care through an integrated physical and behavioral health delivery system. We are guided by our strong mission and faith based heritage and work through local partnerships to expand access to care in the communities we serve.

Lexington's first hospital founded at this home by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth

In 1877, Lexington's first hospital, Saint Joseph Hospital was founded at this home on Linden Walk by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. We proudly reflect on the many years of dedicated service and humankindness from our team of medical professionals.

Our Mission

The five CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations make the healing presence of God known in our world by improving the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.

Humankindness In Action

Your generosity and investment in humankindness bring health care services, programs, equipment, research and more directly to your community. Because of you, our communities are healthier, happier and more vibrant. With your funding support, we are able to impact countless lives through better treatment, prevention and support – whether it’s keeping a premature baby close to home for neonatal intensive care, lifesaving mammograms, education or community benefit support through violence prevention initiatives.

Board & Governance
